07/19/09 - Captain Selection Criteria 
We'll be making Team Captain Selections in the near future. 
Captains will be selected by the Coaching Staff. Here is a list 
of qualities we'll be looking for:

- Work Ethic of leading by example on the ice through hard 
work at all times.

Examples include attending all games, practices, and team 
events. Being the first player on and the last player off the 
ice. Playing two way hockey, getting back defensively as 
quick or quicker than entering the offensive zone, always 
passing the puck to another open player ahead of them (head 
manning the puck). "Team First" mentality; willingness to 
sacrifice self for team to gain puck possession or giving the 
puck up to a teammate with a better scoring opportunity. 
Always giving all out effort during games and just as important 
practices.

-Leading by example through consistent respect of others and 
encouragement of teammates regarding their efforts and 
contributions on the Ice, off the Ice, and just as importantly in 
school. 

-Enthusiastic support of all systems and programs the Coaching 
Staff elects to implement; including all drills selected to 
reinforce these programs.

-Cheer leader on the bench through recognition of teammates' 
efforts. 

Examples include not telling others what to do or not do as this 
is a coaching function. However, tactfully encouraging other 
players to step up their play is part of the Captains 
responsibility. 

-Respectfully represent coaches and players regarding any 
officiating questions.

-Eliminate any negativity other players may express at any time.

-Captains should never publicly question any coaching decisions 
made at any time.
